General Responsibilities

  • The Drafting and Product Design Intern supports the Product Designers by combining preliminary design information with additional input from sales, structural PEs, and the customer throughout the customer approval and design process of moderately complex projects/jobs to create an optimal product solution.
  • Prepare drawings of product components and systems using Autodesk Inventor (3D) and/or Autodesk AutoCAD (2D) for product development, project proposals, engineering, manufacturing, and customer approval purposes
  • Prepare manufacturing BOMs in support of product solution as necessary.
  • Maintain project drawing files, associated records, and other documentation per policy.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • General understanding of steel manufacturing methods and processes such as welding, forming, drilling, punching, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
  • Excellent math skills
  • Basic computer skills (Windows), Microsoft Office
  • Exposure to a CAD data management system – Autodesk Vault preferred
  • Good interpersonal/communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Operate CAD equipment, plotter, and other drawing reproduction equipment.
  • Self-starter that can work with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and quality minded
  • Able to work in a very fast-paced environment

Other Job Functions

All other duties as assigned by the Drafting & Design Manager, Director of Engineering, President, or Executive Committee

Education/Experience Required

  • 2+ years of progress towards an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing/Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in computer aided design is required, AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor is a plus.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office computer programs.
  • Metal fabrication experience or knowledge
