Building Rack was a Family Tradition

From Dave Cranston, Jr. of Cranston Material Handling, McKees Rocks, PA:

“Attached is an interesting picture from 1965. My grandfather Harwood Cranston is in his “shop” cutting pallet rack beam clips from Dexion slotted angle.

“My father David Cranston Sr. is in the maroon jacket, and I am in the plaid shirt.

“As a kid growing up we built thousands of rack frames and beams with slotted angle. Steel King’s going into business obviously was a tremendous improvement over slotted angle. While I don’t know of any slotted angle pallet racks still in use, I am aware of one mezzanine we built in the 70s from slotted angle that is still in use and as good as new. [This picture shows] how times have changed.”
