Reporting Relationship

The Fabrication Set-Up person reports directly to the Supervisor.

General Responsibilities

  • Tend fabricating machines such as shears, rolls, brakes, presses, forming machines, and punches to cut, shape and bend all fabricating material
  • Analyze work orders and read blueprints to determine information such as material to be used, type and sequence of operations, etc.
  • Must report accurate quantities, material used and time in MD Link
  • Read job specs to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
  • Select, position and secure dies, blades, cutters and fixtures onto machine
  • Position and clamp stops, guides and turntables
  • Adjust controls to set and regulate machining factors such as pressure and depth of ram stroke, adjustment rolls, blade angle and machine speed
  • Locate and mark bending or cutting lines and reference points on workplace
  • Start machine and observe operation to reposition work piece, change dies or adjust settings for multiple or successive passes
  • Operate machine to fabricate nonmetallic materials such as composites or plastics
  • Set stops and guides to specified lengths as indicated by scale, rule or template
  • Position workplace against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade
  • Push buttons or pedals to activate machine
  • Observe machine operation to detect and prevent work piece defects or machine malfunction
  • Measure work pieces dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation
  • Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust or scale from work piece
  • Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling machine, dies or work pieces when needed
  • Assist in machine set up
  • Stack, mark, pack and transport finished work pieces

  • Projects as assigned by the Supervisor

Education/Experience Required

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 1-3 months related experience and/or training
  • Certification in forklift operation. The company will train, following hire, if necessary

Skills and Abilities

  • Read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedural manuals
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
  • Apply skills to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form
  • Satisfactorily perform essential duties
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Employee must be able to regularly stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Use hands to feel, finger or handle all types of materials
  • Reach with hands and arms
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and occasionally sit, climb or balance
  • Requires regular lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision requirements; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust your focus
  • Detect smells of machine performance malfunctions
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions

Safety Issues

  • Must follow all safety rules and regulations regarding safety policies
  • Follow safety instructions and understand standard operating procedures
  • Regularly check bulletin board safety notices
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Occasionally exposed to vibration
  • Noise level is usually high and ear plugs are required
  • In the event of violation of the personal health safety and conduct rules, disciplinary actions will be imposed per the disciplinary process
