What vertical clearance is recommended from the top of the pallet w/ load to the underside of the next beam level for selective rack?
For ease of loading/unloading, we typically recommend a 6” vertical clearance from the top of the load to the underside of the beam above.
What horizontal clearance should be allowed between pallets L-to-R on beams?
The most common horizontal clearance that is recommended between pallets in a selective rack application is 4-6”. This may vary when considering load overhang on the pallet.
With a 48” deep pallet, what is the recommended upright depth to use?
A 42” deep upright is the most common upright depth used with a 48” deep pallet, as this will provide proper front and rear overhang of the pallet on the upright depth, thus sharing the weight of the load equally on the front and rear beams.
With SK2000 rack, should anchors be put in both holes in each baseplate?
The most common baseplate used with our SK2000 racking is our “F01” baseplate which has (2) offset holes. These holes are designed as such to allow for proper anchoring in case of interferences with in-floor rebar, but both holes should not be anchored as this would likely weaken the concrete.
Does SK2000 rack need any special tools to install the beams to the uprights?
No special tools are required to attach our SK2000 beams to our uprights, as the beam has a self-engaging safety lock that typically engages as the beam rivets are seated properly into the tear drop holes on the face of the upright.
Can racking be installed outside?
Yes, Steel King racking can be installed outside, as long as the proper considerations are met. Racking must be installed on an adequate concrete surface and other factors, including wind and snow load, must be calculated to allow for an acceptable installation.
Does Steel King manufacture wire mesh decking to be used with pallet racking?
No, Steel King does not manufacture wire mesh decking to be used with our pallet racking, but we do have strong ties to manufacturers of such decking that we can recommend.
Is SK2000 racking interchangeable with other manufacturers’ racking?
For safety reasons, Steel King does not at all recommend such practices.
