Installation Ease and Structural Durability Are Highlights of Boltless Pallet Racking

Why The Boltless Pallet Racking System Remains The Preferred Warehouse Storage Solution

Since its introduction over 30 years ago, Steel King’s SK2000 remains the pallet racking system of choice for end users who want a highly durable yet cost effective storage system for selective and double-deep selective rack, pick modules, gravity flow, pushback racking and mini-load ASRS systems.

SK200: Built for Adjustable & Durable Racking Storage

Designed to be easy to assemble and so that shelf levels can easily be adjusted, SK2000 racking also has several design elements that incur reduced maintenance costs and that can extend the usable life of the racking system.

“SK2000 has proven to be the racking system of choice for many industries because of its structural reliability, its flexibility, and the ability to quickly assemble it,” said Don Heemstra, Vice President for Sales and Marketing at Steel King Industries. “Because of these features and our use of roll-formed steel, SK2000 racking is a cost-effective option that also offers great value when considering total cost of ownership.”

Engineered with Structural Integrity & Superior Design

With a keen understanding of warehouse and distribution center operations, Steel King engineers designed the SK2000 for durability and flexibility. That starts with the use of roll-formed steel – continuously welded into closed-back sections – for both braces and columns, with full-fillet welds where braces meet columns (rather than spot welding) to increase structural strength. Structural elements have 90-degree corner bends for added strength. The Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) has granted Steel King its R-Mark certification, denoting compliance with racking industry design and manufacturing.

Pallet Racking with Enhanced Safety Features

When compared to racking made with open-back roll-form steel, SK2000 columns were shown in independent testing to have 250 percent more front impact strength, 44 times more twist resistance and 68 percent more side impact resistance. The testing simulated an impact delivered by a 4,000-pound forklift. “The structural strength means that SK2000 racking will last longer and will offer enhanced safety for personnel, products and the racking,” Heemstra said.

Another safety feature is the three-rivet connection used for beams (four-rivet connections on 5.5-foot and six-foot beams), providing 26 percent more strength than a two-rivet connection. See how the SK2000 Boltless Pallet Rack frame displays superior strength under maximum capacity during an independent capacity test.

Frame columns are available in multiple sizes and thicknesses, offering a wide variety of load-carrying capacities for various applications, and to meet seismic considerations.

Boltless Racking For Easy Installation

With its boltless design and use of industry standard tear drop connection method, SK2000 racking systems can be easily installed. An auto-engaging safety lock secures beams in place, preventing accidental displacement. And when the need arises to adjust storage positions, the boltless design means shelf levels can be easily adjusted. Beam adjustments can be made in two-inch increments. Heemstra notes, however, that beam level location affects load bearing capacity, so users should check with the manufacturer to determine whether a new configuration is safe.

Racking Accessories & Reinforced Damage Protection

For applications where additional damage protection is needed, columns can be reinforced with C-shaped Column Core inserts, which often are only needed in the lower 12 to 48 inches of the column – where forklift impacts are more likely.

Other accessories are available to protect the racking, such as column protectors, guard railing and pallet pallet load stop beams.

Along with structural integrity, SK2000 components are protected with a powder coat paint finish with lead-free paint that is 100 percent cured before shipping. All those components are shipped in curtain-sided trailers or tarped flatbeds to protect the finish during transit.
